[ Psychology ] Open Question : Do you believe it is possible to fall in love with a character in a book?

Yes, an odd question. And let me make it clear I am not in any way refering to Twilight!!!!!!!!! Edward is too ‘perfect’ a character to actually fall in love with – I believe the character does need to be a complex character with flaws, which makes them real.

I’m just wondering if you think it can happen, and before you say no, consider this:

- The reader feels like they know the character so well, perhaps even better than they know people in their own lives

- You spend so much time in this ‘world’ that you get to know them so well

Okay, I’m waffling. So what do you think?

By the way, I’m not suggesting I feel like I am ‘in love’ with a character, I one day hope to be an author, so I merely curious…I love exploring the world of literature, and that happens to be the question I am pondering on today.

Thank you.
