[ Other - Cultures & Groups ] Open Question : For South Africans (past or present) only. Did you like the interpretation of apartheid in District 9?

I know that what we as Americans are taught about apartheid do not hold true for many residents. Back where I used to live, I had neighbors that lived in South Africa all of their lives, and moved to America in ’98 or ’99. They were white, but strongly opposed black segregation. I had learned a bit about apartheid from a South Africa section in a geography class I took. I asked what they thought of Nelson Mandela, and they replied “Nelson Mandela was a terrorist, and we wanted nothing to do with him”. Remember, these are people are anti-segregation. I remembered this comment, and thought that again, things may be much different from the American point of view. I am curious to find out if any South Africans living in the country at the time of apartheid liked the commentary presented in District 9. Obviously, it is a lot more intense in D9; (I’m pretty sure there were no Black medical dissections during apartheid) but do you think it has any relevance? Do you think the South African people were portrayed well? please, go into as much detail as you want. thanks!
