Jordin Brianna Sparks American Idol Winner

Jordin Brianna Sparks (born December 22, 1989) is an American pop/R&B singer, songwriter, fashion designer, and model. She rose to fame as the winner of the sixth season of American Idol, and followed her victory with the release of her debut album, which led to her reception of an American Music Award and Grammy nominations in 2008. Her self titled debut album was certified Platinum in the U.S. on December 12, 2008.

I’m a big Jordin fan; of all the champions, I think she got to see her grow the most over the course of the season — she came from absolutely nowhere to blow everyone away two seasons ago.

Her performance is really good; has an energy and excitement to it. All the smoke on the stage helps, too. Great big vocals, very dramatic movements, and a big stare-down into the camera at the end as the lights go all blue-green.

Jordin Sparks will kick off Universal’s first-ever Summer Concert Series on Saturday, June 13. The performances will take place at the Music Plaza, which opened at the theme park this year during Mardi Gras festivitiies.

Following Sparks on successive Saturdays will be hip-hop artist LL Cool J (June 20), British pop star Natasha Bedingfield (June 27) and Rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Famers The O’Jays (July 4). The concerts are scheduled to start at 9 p.m.

The new stage, in the shadow of the under-construction Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster, is designed in the style of the Hollywood Bowl in California. The Music Plaza sports a 2,400-square-foot performance stage, a 15,000-square-foot viewing “lawn” and two 20-foot-tall projection screens, Universal Orlando says.

Like the Mardi Gras concerts, these events will be included in regular admission to Universal Studios.
