The desire of any parent is to see their children build their own character, but parents are needed to create an environment in which their children can develop habits of honesty,generousity, and sense of justice.The truth is that raising children of reputable character demands time and attention. Here are 10 ways which will help  your kids acquire better character.

1. Give the parenting first attention. This is always hard to do in a world where so many competing demands. Good parents conciously plan and devote time to parenting. They make developing their kids’ character their top priority.

2. Replan how you use the hours and days of your week. Give thought to the amount of time your kids spend with you. Think on how you can weave your children into your social life and knit yourself into their lives.

3. Let them copy from you. Be a good example because, children learn primarily from adults. So, for parents being a good example is your most important duty.

4. Limit/ control what your children absorb. Children have the ability to absorb everything that they see, hear or read. Books, music, Tv,the internet, and films are continually delivering moral and/or immoral messages to children, hence it needs to be controlled.

5. Use right language. Children cannot have a good moral compass unless people who are around them use the most clear, sharp language of right and wrong.

6. Issue punishment when neccessary. Punish when rules are broken but with loving heart. Tell them that rules are not meant to be broken. Whey they do, issue reasonable punishment and it is a way to teach right from wrong.

7. Have a good listening ears. Learn to listen to your children, even when you think that what your children are saying are not making any sense. There might be something you will need to attend to.

8. Involve yourself deeply into your child’s academic life. There are events going on in the lives of children but schooling tend to dominate as the main.They usually have the experience of mixed bag of triumphs and disappointments. The way they address these will influence the course of their lives. When you help your children in their academic work, you are eqaully helping them achieve a sense of strong character.

9. Use the opportunity of the family meal. Mealtime is an opportunity to teach your children and passing on your values. Good eating manners and rules are absorbed on the dinning.

10. Don’t limit character education to words alone. Practice gives an avenue to acquire virture.Parents are ought help their kids by encouraging and enforcing moral action through self-discipline, good work habits and considerate behaviour to others, and service to others.
